Career Corner: Ask a Recruiter

Should I hire a career coach?

I talk with a lot of people who are considering working with a career coach, but not sure if they should make the investment or take the next step. Here are some great reasons to hire a coach:

  1. Expert advice. A career coach is skilled in supporting clients navigating job searches. If that isn’t currently part of your skillset, a career coach can help!
  2. Time. Reflecting on your value proposition, updating your job-seeking toolkit, finding the best job boards, and prepping for interviews takes TIME. Many of our clients share that it feels like a second job. A career coach can do much of the heavy lifting of updating materials, and help you create strategies for a more efficient and effective job search.
  3. Accountability. A career coach can help you co-create deadlines and check in on you to ensure completion. Some job searches are long-term, and it’s easy for more pressing matters to come first. A career coach can help you meet your goals during the window you’ve set.
  4. Industry Insights. When hiring a career coach, finding someone who has recruited and hired in your industry is KEY. They know how to help you navigate your job search because they speak the language of your prospective recruiters and hiring teams.
  5. Proven success. If you’re striking out on your own, hiring a career coach who has effectively positioned job seekers to land new roles can make a big difference!

At WorkTogether Talent Consulting, our career coaches have experience as recruiters and hiring managers in the education and nonprofit sectors. They also have collectively supported hundreds of clients in building professional brands, preparing for interviews, and submitting excellent applications. If you want to take the guessing game out of your social impact job-search, and need accountability and strategies for saving time, a career coach may be right for you.
