Rebranding Your School? Here's How to Get Staff on Board.

Rebranding for school is not much different from other businesses. It is a unique opportunity to unite both the past and the future under the umbrella of a well-developed brand. It’s a chance to reaffirm the values you’ve stood for over the years while looking ahead to the kind of institution you hope to become. Here are stories from districts that have rebranded or are thinking about rebranding, and what they’ve learned about getting—and keeping—their employees on board and on brand.

Career Corner: Ask a Recruiter

How direct should I be in a thank you email?

A client just reached out to me to ask about thank you emails protocol - is it ok to be super direct with employers? My answer: YES!

Thank you emails are a totally optional portion of a hiring process (and in my opinion, a hiring manager or recruiter who rejects a candidate simply for not writing one is someone you should question working with), but they can add value. Instead of thinking about a thank you email as just a chance to show gratitude, consider it an opportunity to continue connecting the dots for the hiring team about your interest in and capacity to perform the role.

I’ve shared in many of these Career Corners that a job opening reflects a problem which exists within an organization. A hiring team is doing their best to find the person who can fix that problem. Every step in a hiring process is a candidate’s chance to demonstrate their ability to fix the problem, and a thank you card is of the strategies a candidate can use to demonstrate their ability to add value.

A great thank you email doesn’t have to be a novel - 1-2 paragraphs will suffice! Here’s some sample language to get you started:

“As I've learned more about the position from our conversations and interviews, it's clear to me you're seeking a [insert the job title] who is well positioned to do [list the problems this role will be addressing within the team/organization]. This is exactly the work that energizes me and I'm incredibly excited by the prospect of applying my [list experiences/expertise] to support the organization in reaching such ambitious goals. [Personalize further with your skillset and topics you discussed in the interview, and how they’re a great match together.]. I would be thrilled to join your team."
