DEIB is a secret weapon for getting the most out of your team. Honing the skills to use this weapon comes from moving through the phases of unawareness, awareness, action, and advocacy. Granted, this takes time, but research proves that the results of leading high-performing teams are well worth an allocation in any leader’s schedule.

List Out Your Technical Expertise on Your Resume!
Here’s your jobseeking pro-tip for this week: include all the software, programs, and systems you have worked with on your resume!
I was recently working with a client on updating their resume, and they casually mentioned system-wide work they had led with a well-known cloud-based software within multiple organizations. It was NOWHERE on their resume! When I asked why they hadn’t included the software on their resume, the client mentioned that it didn’t seem like an interesting detail since a lot of nonprofit professionals doing talent/operations/fundraising work have experience with this system. They then began listing out additional software they’d use over the years, none of which were on their resume, with the same rationale (assumed it wasn’t relevant since the use of those systems is widespread across nonprofits).
If this resonates with you, it’s time to make sure to include all software, programs, and systems you’ve worked with on your resume - it could make the difference between a job interview and a rejection email. Just because a particular system is common in your job function or industry, does not mean everyone knows how to use it or has used it in the same capacity as you. You can create a “Skills” section on your resume where you list the software you’ve worked with (include this at the top of your resume, where a recruiter or hiring manager is most likely to spend their time), and get even more specific within the bullets of your work experience to share how you’ve use this particular software and the impact on your work (ex: “Developed and launched comprehensive donor engagement strategy and leveraged Salesforce to track all communication; logged over 1,000 unique touch points within 9 months and increased annual giving by 25%”).
