Last week, I shared tips on showcasing results vs. responsibilities on your resume. Today, I encourage you to ensure your resume content is aligned to your target roles. Here’s how:

 

  • Identify a job description for your target role. What are the main job functions? What terms/vocabulary are used?

 

  • Look at your resume - does your resume share examples of times you’ve performed similar/transferable work and gotten great results?
     
    • Ex: You’re a teacher applying for an Assistant Principal role. Make sure you share examples of times you’ve formally or informally coached your peers (as a grade-level chair, department chair, leading a weekly PD, etc.)

 

  • Consider using a tool like JobScan, which uses AI technology to compare your resume to a specific job description. It will show strengths and provide tips on how to optimize your content to match the job description better.
