5 Things Nonprofit Boards Can Do To Intentionally Lead On Diversity, Equity and Inclusion
Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in the Workplace | Tips for Starting a DEI Committee
Many organizations have taken the step to have a DEI committee in the office to advance racial justice and create a more inclusive work environment. However, if not planned well, these committees may have the opposite effect. Here are some things to keep in mind when organizing this important group.
6 Characteristics of Inclusive Leaders
Leaders have different goals, visions and practices, but one thing should remain the same: their commitment to inclusivity. This study has analyzed company leaders from across the globe and found six characteristics all inclusive leaders exhibit in their work.
Restructure Your Organization to Actually Advance Racial Justice
Whether you’re an established leader in your organization or have just joined the team, you can help start the conversation around advancing racial justice. In the workplace, this often starts with making sure you have the right systems and structures in place. In this article, social psychologist Evelyn Carter discusses areas to focus on to create lasting change.
Facilitating Organizational Change
The InclusionBoston model provides companies and organizations with tools and context to increase their understanding of DEI work. Read some of the lessons nonprofits have learned by participating in their program. With the world moving faster each day, every second counts.
On education issues that arose during her 27 years on the court, Ginsburg was a stalwart vote for gender equity in schools, expansive desegregation remedies, strict separation of church and state, and, in a memorable dissent, against broader drug testing of students.
If you’ve been interviewing for a while, you’ve probably been invited to complete a performance task of some kind. Performance tasks are a great opportunity for you to get a taste of the scope and rigor of the work, and for hiring managers to see your expertise in practice. Here are my best practices for approaching a performance task:
1) Review the task and supporting documents in their entirety. Create a timeline for completion, especially if you’ve been given several days or even more than a week. Block time off in your calendar and stick to the plan! 2) Don’t be afraid to seek clarity on big questions. Perhaps you notice there’s a missing set of data, or you’re unclear on the amount of detail the hiring manager expects. Make sure that you ask these questions as soon as you get the assignment, as opposed to the day before it’s due. 3) Brainstorm or ask for feedback from a friend/colleague with experience in that job function to ensure you’re on the right path.
4) Review your final document for spelling and grammar, and ensure you’ve addressed all the big questions or look-fors from the original assignment. Applying for jobs and engaging in a rigorous interview process takes time. I encourage you to seek clarity on the full timeline of a process the moment you engage with a hiring manager. This will help you plan accordingly in the case that you’re invited to move forward.
