This article explores the vital role of workplace culture in employee satisfaction and retention, as revealed in a new Dayforce study. While 69% of executives feel proud of their workplace, only 42% of workers agree, highlighting a significant disconnect. A strong culture fosters loyalty, productivity, and collaboration, reducing costly turnover, says Thomas Noorkah. To bridge the gap, organizations must invest in areas like communication, benefits, and development opportunities. By aligning efforts with employee needs, companies can build cultures that attract top talent and drive long-term success.

Transforming workplace culture takes time, but one powerful tool gaining traction is the use of “activators”—employees who champion change by leading discussions, gathering feedback, and modeling desired behaviors. Organizations like PMI and PwC are leveraging this approach to drive cultural shifts, alongside strategies such as active listening, consistent communication, and inclusion. This article explores how these efforts, combined with clear boundaries and accountability, can reshape workplace dynamics for lasting impact.

How to strategically prepare for an interview
|
|
|
Is there such a thing as too much interview preparation? In the case of a recent client, the answer was yes.
I have been working with a client who is organized, thorough, and methodical. As she has prepped for interviews, she’s reflected on EVERY job she’s ever held uncovering all possible examples she might provide in the case of any interview question. Then, she forgets everything she prepped on the day of the interview because of the sheer amount of information in her brain during these high-stakes conversations.
In our work together, I’ve emphasized quality over quantity. Instead of 10-20 potential interview answers, we’ve focused on identifying just 3-4 relevant (and likely recent, but not necessarily) work projects/scenarios, and analyzing them from inception to completion. Each of 3-4 examples should be meaty, allowing you to discuss goals, challenges, team dynamics, and potentially technical skills relevant to the target role.
Here’s how to translate this advice into your own interview preparation:
1. Review the target job description. Ask yourself (or even ChatGPT!), “what are the biggest problems someone in this role will be charged with solving?”
2. Reflect on your relevant work experience (when I say relevant, I mean you were solving similar problems, at a similar scale). Identify 3-4 major projects/initiatives/work products which most demonstrate your capacity to perform this job, for this employer.
3. Break it down from beginning to end - why were you involved in this project, what was your role, what happened step by step, and what were the measurable outcomes?
4. Analyze the interpersonal dynamics in each initiative - who was involved, how did you all work together, what were some of the challenges or nuances about your collaboration (if applicable)?
5. Step back and reflect on what went well, what you might have done differently, and any big take-aways you have from the project/initiative (about the strategy, your leadership, etc.).
6. Make connections. Why do you believe these examples are relevant to the role you’re targeting? What do you hope the employer will believe about you as a result of these examples? How do these examples demonstrate your capacity to perform this job well?
Becoming an expert on just a few examples versus all professional examples will set you up for success. It’s also a more strategic way of preparing for an upcoming interview!
