Preparing for an Interview
|
Have an interview coming up? Here are my top recommendations for preparing!
|
|
|
-
-
Extensively review the organization’s website - what is their history, mission, impact, and potential future plans? Answer the following questions for yourself:
- What about this organization excites me?
- How does this organization’s mission align well with my own experiences, values, or areas of interest?
- Do I have experience working or volunteering for similar organizations?
-
Review the job description and answer the following questions:
- What problems will the individual who is hired for this role need to solve?
- What aspects of my experience/background uniquely position me to solve these problems?
- What are examples of projects I’ve led, work I’ve performed, research I’ve conducted, etc. that clearly demonstrate my ability to solve these additional problems?
- Review your resume. An interview panel will likely reference information you’ve included or ask you to walk them through the document.
- Consider drafting sample answers to common behavioral interview questions using the STAR interview method.
- Reflect on previous interactions with the hiring team (if you’ve had them). Were there aspects of your experiences they seemed especially interested in learning more about, or did they probe statements you’ve shared before? That will give you insight into the areas you’ll be expected to expand upon in a future interview.
- Reflect on past interviews you’ve had with other organizations - what kinds of questions make you nervous or do you feel like you need to rehearse in advance? Make a list and take some time to prepare some talking points!
