What Leaders Are Thankful for in 2020

With challenge after challenge this year, it’s been easy to lose sight of our blessings. In this inspiring piece, leaders discuss what they’re feeling most grateful for this season.

Thanks to Teachers, Learning Loss This Year Was Not As Bad As Projected

From technology issues to lack of internet access, there were a lot of things standing in the way of learning for students this year. Learning loss was inevitable, but no one knew how bad things would be. Fortunately, research has shown far less learning loss than anticipated!

How the Class of 2020 Is Persevering Through the Pandemic

This year is messy and lonely for many of last year’s seniors, and yet they’re aware that they’re writing history with every strange day they forge ahead, into the fall of a pandemic that has been intensified by the resurgence of the Black Lives Matter movement, rolling natural disasters, and a major national election season. Doing much more than taking 2020 in stride, last year's graduating seniors are converting disappointments, surprises, and tragedies into life lessons for the rest of us.

Career Corner: Ask a Recruiter

I recently heard the term “personal board of directors,” and it spoke to me. Just like companies, institutions, districts, and nonprofits assemble boards to make strategic decisions, a personal board can operate in the same way.

My personal board consists of a few key friends, family members, and trusted colleagues. They bring a diverse set of professional experiences and perspectives to the table, and, more importantly, they are brutally honest with me.

When I’m battling impostor syndrome or making excuses for not taking risks, they call me out on it. And when I’m struggling with a tough situation at work or home, they serve as a sounding board and coach me through solutions. I love them for it, and I rely on their unwavering support.

You probably already have people in your life who make up your board. Are you leaning on them when you're stuck at work or battling your own impostor syndrome? If not, what’s stopping you?
