3 Tips for Remote Onboarding

As a new employee, you can hope your new company has read the tips above and provides an engaging onboarding process. However, not all the responsibility falls on them. Learn what you can be doing to make the most of this time.

Managing Someone Whose Life Has Been Upended

The past year was anything but ordinary and your team members might have experienced events that upended their daily lives. To help your team members manage their life transitions in a way that doesn’t upend their work lives, you can provide four pieces of advice: start with your transition superpower, use rituals to say goodbye, everyone profits from sharing, and understand that your story will change.

Coping with Work Transitions

Life’s transitions can be exciting or troubling, but in either case they almost always produce added stress that can tax your energy level or your peace of mind. This article provides ways employees as well as leaders can help ease these transitions.

Career Corner: Ask a Recruiter

Are you considering graduate school, but not sure if it’s the right next step? Advanced degrees can help you position yourself well for certain jobs, expand your network and allow you to develop a particular skill-set. Graduate school can also be costly and take years to complete.

Here are some guiding questions as you’re evaluating the pros/cons of graduate school:

  • Is there a graduate degree standing between you and a particular role? For example, a Chief Financial Officer will likely need an MBA, and a Director of Academics will likely require a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction.

  • Do I have a plan to pay for graduate school, whether it’s taking out loans, using savings, applying for scholarships, working while studying, etc.?

  • Are degrees from this graduate school respected by my target employers? Pro tip - reach out to the admissions team to find out where graduates work!

  • Are there programs that will allow me to work full/part-time while studying, and if so, am I comfortable giving up my “free time” studying?

When in doubt, connect with a mentor who is familiar with your target graduate schools and field of study to seek guidance. Informational Interviews with graduates and hiring managers can also inform your work!
