Career Corner: Ask a Recruiter

Do you know that you need to update your resume, but feel overwhelmed by the amount of content you need to add? Here’s a strategy to help you simplify the process: keep a running list of your work wins!

  • Create a Google or Word document where you can record goals met or exceeded, and projects owned.

  • You might include different sections for each of your responsibilities at work, and include specific achievements related to each workstream.

  • Consider adding a special section to record praise received from colleagues, students, managers, community members, etc. about your work.

  • Reserve time to update the document monthly.

If you’re like many education and nonprofit professionals, you probably wear many hats and do quite a bit of good for the communities you serve. It’s easy to forget all the good you do if you don’t take the time to capture your achievements! Making time to track and document your achievements will help you prepare for performance reviews, update your job seeking tools, and practice for interviews.
