How To Find (And Secure) A Job During The Pandemic

In this edition of Leaders in Education, we will focus on all things related to finding a job in the non-teaching education sector.

Tips for a Job Search During the Coronavirus Pandemic

You’re probably struggling to navigate this strange (and we hope temporary) new normal. Many organizations are slamming the brakes on hiring for the time being. Even though your job search may be on hold, there are still ways for you to stay in the game. If you’re struggling to find a way to start a career while in quarantine, here are helpful suggestions about how to get and stay on track.

Job Interviews During a Pandemic

The number of organizations around the globe asking their employees to work from home increases each day with the number of infections tied to the ongoing pandemic. As a result, recruiters and managers are moving their hiring processes online. The most immediate change will likely be — as we’re already seeing — companies switching in-person interviews to video. While the substance of those interviews is ultimately the same, video interviews differ from in-person meetings. This article will cover best practices for video interviews and what job seekers may face throughout the current crisis.

How to Find a Job During the Coronavirus Pandemic

The Coronavirus pandemic has had not only a significant impact on the global economy but also the job search. Some organizations have responded to the health crisis with layoffs, furloughs, cutting hours and overtime pay, and implementing hiring freezes. Right now, there’s a lot of uncertainty about what the national and global impact will be on hiring. This article will discuss ways you can stay positive and proactive about your job search during this intense time.

How To Find A Job When You Don’t Know Where To Start

Knowing how to find a job, particularly when unemployed, can make the whole job search process less stressful. One key to a successful job search is not putting all your eggs in one basket. You want to make sure that you increase your chances of finding a job by using several channels in different ways. This article will walk you step-by-step in getting organized before applying to jobs.

How to Avoid Job Search Burnout and Find the Gig You Want

If you feel like you’re applying to job after job with no luck, it’s probably not just you. You’re competing against 250 people, on average, for any given job. That’s only a 2 percent chance of landing an interview. If you’re hoping to land the position of your dreams, this article will teach you how to avoid burnout to find the gig you want.

 Career Corner: Ask a Recruiter

Recently, I’ve heard from jobseekers who are having trouble figuring out who is actively hiring at this time. Specifically, they worry that even if positions are posted, hiring processes may be on pause and they’re anxious about investing time and resources into a long application process. There may be some truth to that concern, especially for roles listed prior to March, but it shouldn’t deter you from exploring new opportunities. Instead, I encourage you to reach out to an organization’s HR team (either through their website contact info or LinkedIn), and inquire about their hiring timeline. Here’s a template to help you get started -

Hi Recruiter Name,

I hope that you have been taking care during this time.

I recently came across your posting for the NAME OF ROLE position and am excited to explore the role further. I understand that recent stay at home orders have impacted the way many organizations are currently approaching hiring - are you actively considering candidates at this time or has hiring paused?

Thank you in advance for providing clarity during this dynamic time. I’m looking forward to hearing back from you and submitting my application shortly. If you are not moving forward with hiring right now, please let me know if you’d be open to a 15 minute informational call instead (I’ve attached a copy of my resume in case that’s helpful!).

I appreciate your time and am wishing you the best.

Take care,
YOUR NAME
