Four Ways To Create A Healthy Work Environment

When you spend the majority of your time at work, it’s essential to have a healthy environment. So, as a leader, how can you create a healthy work environment for yourself and your team? The article provides four ways to do just that.

To Recruit and Retain a Strong Team, Live the Culture You Talk About

Culture is more than building relationships and making friends: It's the cornerstone on which influential companies are run. So often, we talk about culture but only prioritize it when it's convenient: This is a substantial economic mistake. An inclusive culture leads to greater company cohesiveness where people want to stay and contribute towards its success.

What WorkMonger is reading right now.

Company Culture Is Everyone’s Responsibility

The pandemic and other developments in recent years have made the top-down approach to building company culture no longer work. A new culture-building approach is already in place at some organizations, one in which everyone in the organization is responsible and shares accountability for achieving the desired culture.

Career Corner: Ask a Recruiter

How to reschedule an interview

Imagine that you applied for a great role, received an invitation to interview, and then as the call approaches, you’re still stuck in traffic (and your child is in the back seat!). Or perhaps the only times the interviewer offered you to speak falls during a day-long strategic planning meeting you’re facilitating. How should you proceed?

From the recruiter's perspective, we see this all the time, and I can tell you that the majority of us prefer that you reschedule the call. You should be in a quiet, focused place, versus a moving car (safety hazard!) or stepping outside of a loud team meeting (distractions for both you and the recruiter!). Even if you think that your ability to take a call anywhere/anytime demonstrates your sincere interest in the role, the recruiter may actually perceive that you didn’t care enough to plan accordingly. Or, at minimum, the recruiter will be frustrated that they don’t get to know you as well as they could in a distraction-free environment.

If you find yourself not loving the options the recruiter has offered (because they are too close to your commute time, or during a meeting you can’t reschedule), be proactive. Share that you’re looking forward to a conversation, but the times offered are not compatible with your schedule. Offer three times that do work for your schedule that can happen within that week. Most recruiters will be happy to work with your schedule! Those that are unwilling demonstrate a lot about the culture of their organization - that’s good information too.

Additionally, if the time you scheduled seemed like it would initially work, but then you unexpectedly get caught in a traffic jam that adds an hour to your commute, simply let the recruiter know when they call you. Acknowledge that you had anticipated being home, and unfortunately, you will need to reschedule the call. Ask if you can email when you get home to propose additional times. Again, almost all recruiters will understand! And those that don’t - well, that’s good information too.
